Mackey Opticians is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Optometrist to join our growing team!

Our 14 large comfortable practices have been created and furnished with our patients in mind and our philosophy is to provide tailored, high quality optical care for our patients.
We are currently the largest independent opticians group in Northern Ireland and have been serving in our communities for 75 years.

What You Will Do

In this pivotal role, you will play a key role in providing comprehensive eye care services to our patients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough eye examinations to assess visual acuity, identify eye diseases and abnormalities

  • Utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment, including OCT scanners, to evaluate ocular health

  • Prescribing corrective lenses (eyeglasses and contact lenses) based on individual needs

  • Educating patients on proper eye care practices and healthy vision habits

  • Diagnosing and managing common eye conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration

  • Co-managing ocular conditions with ophthalmologists when necessary

  • Providing pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery (if applicable)

  • Contributing to the overall success of the practice by achieving patient satisfaction and sales targets

What We Are Looking For

  • A valid Optometry Degree (MCOptom or equivalent) and current registration with the General Optical Council (GOC)

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a qualified Optometrist

  • Strong clinical skills and a comprehensive understanding of ocular anatomy and physiology

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients of all ages

  • A patient-centered approach with a focus on providing exceptional care and clear explanations

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and optometry software

  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues
