The Glen Road branch has been a cornerstone of the West Belfast community since 1984. Originally founded as JF McDonald Opticians, the practice joined the Mackey Opticians family in 1991.
The practice has maintained the friendly and familiar atmosphere of the original practice, welcoming generations of local families through its doors. While ownership changed, many of the original staff members remained, ensuring a smooth transition for loyal customers.
In 2010, the practice faced a significant challenge when flooding forced a temporary closure. During this time, services were relocated to the Lower North Street and Newtownards Road branches. The Glen Road store reopened shortly after, with a refreshed look and the same commitment to exceptional eye care.
Today, the team of Orla, Sheila, and Rita bring a wealth of optical knowledge and experience to the branch. The practice offers a wide range of frames, from budget-friendly options to designer labels like Guess, DKNY, Caterpillar, and Superdry. The children’s range is particularly popular and well-regarded.
The practice prides itself on providing high-quality lenses and staying up-to-date with the latest contact lens technology. The team’s commitment to the community is evident in the long-standing relationships built with patients.
